It is hard to believe Dad is gone because he has always has such a strong presence in our lives. It was difficult to see him grow old and more disabled with each passing year. He weathered many illness during his lifetime and one of the more serious was his spinal abscess. It was difficult to live so far away and I remember writing him a letter or poem of sorts to encourage him through his convalescence. I Believe in You A Tribute to My Dad, Edward William Hohensee I believe in you because you’re the guy who sweated in the Bethlehem steel plant to put himself through medical school, foregoing the dream of becoming a concert pianist. I believe in you because weren’t deterred by your lovely wife’s desire for a dozen children and blessed her with eight. Those family memories and seven siblings are my most prized possessions. I believe in you because you’re the guy that, despite oodles of kids most of who were in diapers had the foresight and drive to pursue specialty training in ophthalmology so that you could spend more time with your family. I believe in you because you were the strongest Dad on the block, who could hurl all the neighborhood kids in the swimming pool, including a few unsuspecting parents. I believe in you because you’re the gardener who cultivated rich soils to grow the most prolific garden and some of the most delicious tomatoes bar none. I believe in you because you’re the Dad who had the courage…or insanity... to pack his eight kids in a Travel All and pop- up camper and show them the beauty of this country the way it should be experienced. I believe in you because you’re the Dad who provided his eight children with the advantage of a college education giving them the wings to reach their dreams. I believe in you because you’re the Dad who has been there for ALL of us in so many ways and now we are here for you.
